ALL ABOUT WARHOL! URBAN IN IBIZA at OCEAN BEACH CLUB, FRI 23 AUG

SOW Logo K. Thomas

Urban in Ibiza: Sons of Warhol celebrates final island event on Friday 23 Aug at Ocean Beach Club with Société Perrier on board

Amongst the exhibition pieces, work from Banksy, Schoony, Pure Evil, My Dog Sighs, Snik, Fin Dac and John Tracy. Live Paint by Inkie and Dank

(FIX/Ibiza/Thurs 22 Aug 2013):

After what has been an intense 8 month long journey of proposals, preparations and paintings, URBAN IN IBIZA: Sons of Warhol is finally coming to the end of another island takeover with its ultimate event of 2013 taking place this Friday 23rd August at Ocean Beach Club, San Antonio. Set to be another roaring success for the organisers of the event, and in particular its creator, Paul Dizzi Saunders, this is the second time that Urban in Ibiza has presented its street art collection at the San An location and in an exciting, new collaboration, organisers are also pleased to announce that Société Perrier have also come on board the Urban in Ibiza Tour Bus (Yes, we have a Tour Bus!), in what hopes to be the start of a beautiful relationship between the two brands. And the link between the two- none other than the man who initiated the pop art movement in the 60s and remains a vital reference in the art world in the present day. He is Andy Warhol.

In 1983, Andy Warhol created over 40 works of art inspired by the iconic Perrier bottle. This year, to celebrate Perrier’s 150th anniversary, the brand has reconnected with the legendary artist through the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, presenting exclusive limited-edition Perrier packaging based on Warhol’s brilliant art, and which the Société Perrier team will present to guests at Ocean Beach Club throughout the event on Friday.

Back at the Urban in Ibiza camp and, having long since been a fan of Warhol’s work, Saunders wanted to capture some of that essence and philosophy and bring it to his own Art-Fashion-Music concept.  Saunders says, “Andy Warhol has always been someone I have admired. I feel street art emulates that Warhol quirk and ‘Sons Of Warhol’ is a term I’ve always used to describe our school of street artists. Plus, with Warhol’s birthday/anniversary falling on the same month as the Urban In Ibiza events this year, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to roll out the name”.

Taking all that into account, then, and it’s plain to see why Société Perrier and Urban in Ibiza’s joining of forces for the Ocean Beach event is a pretty apt one. The French mineral water brand will be present at the event, with surprises, giveaways and of course, plenty of sparkling water to cool the crowd down, including a number of their limited edition Andy Warhol bottles for the lucky/thirsty ones.

Societe-Perrier-Black-on-White

Back to the art, and the Urban in Ibiza exhibition at Ocean Beach includes works by Schoony, My Dog Sighs, Adam Bricusse, Snik, John Tracey, K Guy, Hornsleth, Ben Allen, Chad Muska, Dan Kitchener (DANK), Banksy, Elmo Hood, Zeus, Fin Dac, Henry Hate, Inkie, Pure Evil, Chapter and Milo.

A special mention should go out to Schoony, whose works of art are constant fixtures in Urban in Ibiza exhibitions. With a background rooted in special effects and prosthetics for the film industry in a career spanning over twenty years, he took the plunge into a new career as an artist to share his passion for life cast sculpture. Schoony soon took the London art scene by storm in 2008 with his life cast sculptures ‘Boy Soldiers’, one of whom currently features in box office smash, Kick Ass 2.

For Urban in Ibiza: Sons of Warhol, he has created a life cast masterpiece, a little brother for his Boy Soldiers, Urban in Ibiza’s mascot for 2013. We present The Son of Warhol, a work of art so realistic you will need to look twice.

Also back for the Ocean Beach event, American photographer/artist and curator John Tracey will make a personal appearance presenting his SK8 Art St collection as part of the works on show. Apart from that, other most definite highlights of this event include a live paint by a vital component in Urban’s history- Bristol artist, Inkie this time joined by massively rising star, Dank, whose paintings at the Atzaro Exhibition were amongst the most popular. Mexican artist Henry Hate’s showstopper is also taking pride of place at Ocean Beach Club and keep eyes open for local artist Chapter’s contribution to the show. We could go on and on and on but the truth is, each and every work of art at Urban in Ibiza: Sons of Warhol deserves a massive shout out.  Or, you could just come see for yourself!

The crème de la crème of the international street art scene- right there, one more day/night only, at Ocean Beach Club, this Friday 23 August.

‘ONCE UPON A TIME’ SUNDAY MARKET AMONGST EVENTS COMING UP

+

THE LATEST ON LO CURA LOUNGE

(FIX/IBIZA/19 AUG 2013)

As Ibiza hot spots go, BOUTIQUE HOSTAL SALINAS is certainly proving to be a top contender here on the island of crazy dreams this summer. The 12 room hotel, only metres away from the shores of the world famous Salinas Beach, having raised its own bar even more this season, has proved itself on the Ibiza map as not only as an excellent choice for an idyllic holiday getaway, private party location and also as a highly successful restaurant in its own right. And that’s before we even mention the events programme….

So, lets do this in parts- we promise not to hold you back too much…

EVENTS COMING UP AT BOUTIQUE HOSTAL SALINAS:

Once Upon a Time: Sunday Market

25 August
8 + 22 September

Inline images 1

Surely the surprise star of the BHS summer, the bi-monthly Sunday Market which goes under the name of ‘Once Upon a Time’ has gone from strength to strength over the last weeks, fast becoming the coolest night market on the island of Ibiza.

Organised by trio of Italianas Daniela Natale, Luana Biondi and Rouge Le Dangerouge, all familiar faces on the Ibiza scene, Once Upon a Time is the new market of choice round these parts, perhaps because it turns the regular notion of ‘market’ right on its head, presenting instead an absolute melting pot of creativity- a mixture of young designers, vintage vendors, street artists, theatrical performers, illustrators, DJs and Ibiza’s coolest hepcats, all milling around the grounds of the BHS and creating an Ibiza shopping experience with a major difference.

Starting at 6pm on its respective Sundays, the Boutique Hostal Salinas undergoes a time-travelling transformation that every vintage lover worth her salt would surely die with her leg in the air to attend. This is what we like to refer to as a real mooching opportunity- quality stalls of all shapes and sizes, price ranges to match, all sprawled across the grounds of Salinas’ cutest hotel and we jest you not; for those with an eye for this kind of thing, you just got lucky.

Providing the Shopping Soundtrack, DJ Daisy Heartbreaker is on hand playing a selection of her finest vintage vinyls- tunes from the past and the present to help ease you into shopping mode. To build up your strength for the mahoosive task in hand, grab a freshly made fajita along the way or do it in style and ask for the A la Carte Menu before you dive into vintage heaven.

Sunshine People

15, 22, 29 August
5, 12, 19, 26 September

Bruno from Ibiza is a DJ who barely needs an introduction round these parts. As former resident DJ at the world famous Café del Mar back in its wey-hey-hey-day, Bruno went on to make a definitive mark on the musical history of Ibiza and has been a constant fixture on its scene ever since, taking his skills worldwide and representing the real essence of the island with every step of his musical journey, Back to the present and its our pleasure to present Bruno, his sound and his style at the Boutique Hostal Salinas, who together with Angel Cielo and Julien Tax stepping up to complete the DJ trio every Thursday from 6pm, presents a soundtrack that clearly evokes feelings of the authentic Ibiza keeping a very enthusiastic crowd entertained till the wee small hours.

To curb those hunger pangs, follow the smell to the BBQ area where Sunshine People can grab a meat feast for a special price of 15€

AMP & DECK

4 Sept 2013

They’re back! One of our favourite musical duos has returned to the island for even more fun, this time throwing their very own bash at the BHS on 4 Sept from 4pm till the last man falls. Roping in DJ Callum (DJ, producer, head of House of De Bango, Messalina, Par-Tay, Cellophane, Space Truckin’, Wildlife. Resident at We Love…Space Ibiza, Carl Cox @ Spaceto give them a hand, Amp & Deck (aka Kev Macey + Joe Lye + Blaine Harrison (Mystery Jets)) fully intend to milk the fact that this is their last appearance in Ibiza this summer, to which end, anything could happen and probably will. Expect a healthy dose of absolute awesomeness there for the taking. Plug yourself in, why don’t you?

Kev and Joe Lye swung by Boutique Hostel Salinas to play sets in July of this year, having previously warmed up for island ledge, Alfredo. Fresh from their second set of the year for Lo Cura Lounge at ‘WE LOVE’ SPACE on Sundays the boys wanted to throw a more chilled “Balearic” (if you will!) party on the Island.

TO BE PHRANK- VERNISSAGE

30 Aug, 8pm

Originally from Dusseldorf, photographer Frank Weyrauther (Phrank) is a very familiar face on the Ibiza scene, having worked his magic here since the 90s and providing a very visual and accurate image of what Ibiza is all about. In particular, he is renowned on the club scene, working over the years for surely, some of the most reputable promoters and clubs on the island- amongst them Manumission, Cocoon, We Love, Amnesia, Space, Privilege.

And now, it’s time for Phrank to show us some some of the thousands of images he has in his hard drive. Coinciding with his birthday celebrations, the Vernissage of Phrank’s exhibition takes place on 30 Aug with canapés, cocktails and vinyl only sessions from Alfredo and Jaime Fiorito, with more surprises yet to be announced.

MEANWHILE IN THE BOUTIQUE HOSTAL SALINAS RESTAURANT:

Word continues to spread across the island that the BHS Restaurant is well worth a visit, with chef Dani Gastalver wowing diners with his A la Carte Menu on a daily basis. Amongst guests recently spotted in the restaurant, Strictly Come Dancing’s Jason Gardiner who, we are reliably informed cleaned his plate and then some. Enigma’s Michael Cretu, Germany’s biggest female pop star, Sandra plus the best part of the electronic music industry massive are all also big fans of the BHS Restaurant.

BHS Restaurant opens daily from 2.30pm-11pm with a Daily Menu as well as the A la Carte Menu.

…and over at Lo Cura…

When they are not running the Boutique Hostal Salinas, David Phillips, Duesi Wolfmeir and Anita Dey keep themselves amused with their sister project- Bar Lo Cura in Ibiza Port and its spin off- Lo Cura Lounge, which pops up at We Love…Space every other Sunday.

Lo Cura Lounge sees a hardy bunch of local music-loving chums bandy together to give it all they’ve got, bringing with them the spirit of their favourite watering hole, Bar Lo Cura, in rather large doses…And so far, so good- pretty fair to say it’s been going right off in El Salon when this lot get their hands on it. With only two more chances for the island crew to gather together, ain’t no stoppin’ us now at Space…

For the rest, you’ll find the crew in Bar Lo Cura, C/Antoni Mari Ribas, open Mon-Sat, a place where good times are pretty much guaranteed thanks to not only the reasonably priced drinks, the weekly calendar of DJs (including Karlos Sense, Daisy Heartbreaker, Ian Blevins, Leena Sharma) and special summer surprises plus the usual Lo Cura suspects on hand to entertain and of course, the Lo Cura captain, David Phillips, the combination of which makes for a perfect watering hole down old Ibiza Port. See you there…

Coming Up at Lo Cura Lounge at We Love:

1 September Balearic Legends: David Phillips, Alfredo, Amp & Deck, Jon SaTrincha,

15 September: Closing of Lo Cura Lounge! David Phillips, Daisy Heartbreaker, Jon Woodall, Stray Kitten, Brian Beezwax

FRIDAYS ARE THE NEW THURSDAYS! ANTZ AT SACCA UPDATE!

Antz_Hirst_4Logos

ANTZ AT SACCA starting TONIGHT 16 Aug

Drinks, Dinner and Dance- in that order!

(FIX/IBIZA/16 AUG 2013)

There are certain things round here that definitely need to be changed and then, there are other things where the old adage, ‘If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it’ definitely applies. Anthony Antz Bryans’ current DJ residency at Sacca, formerly Aura, is a fine example. For that reason, as of TONIGHT, FRIDAY 16 AUG, you’ll find the island’s most respected private party DJ doing what it is he does best- kickstarting the island’s weekends in his own inimitable by way of a subtle and very harmonious shift back to Fridays from Thursdays for our man with the cans.

Long since associated with the highly reputable restaurant cum lounge bar on the Sant Joan road, having held his very successful Friday night DJ residency there since 2005, Antz is considered a part of the venue’s bricks and mortar foundation ever since those formative days, having helped place the destination location on the map for residents and visitors alike practically since its beginnings.

Now, with the restaurant/lounge bar under brand new management and with a brand new name and concept, Antz & Co are over the moon to announce that, after an initial first few weeks of taking over Thursday nights at Sacca’s Lounge Bar, Kuro, our main man is back behind the controls of the venue’s DJ booth this and every Friday till we tell you otherwise. filling the dancefloor to bursting with both the island’s top party people as well as Antz’ own impressive crew of international movers and shakers.

In keeping with Sacca’s sophisticated style, Antz’ sound is the perfect fit and this, coupled with his ability to read his crowd, makes him the DJ of choice for those looking for an after dinner drink and dance. But, lets not get carried away, this is no underground rave, no typical Ibiza club night. This is something else, something for the more discerning individual, and considering that Sacca is a high-end, Asian dining experience, with award-wining Australian chef Lex Hauser at the helm, and a menu that combines subtle Asian flavours alongside hand- picked superior Chinese, Thai and Japanese foods, there’s really no excuse not to make a night of it. With that in mind, we highly recommend you get your troops together, book a table and enjoy the meticulously prepared dishes on offer at Sacca.

Post-fine dining, or even during, and it would be rude not to take advantage of the fact that this summer, German Techno God and aficionado of all things Japanese, DJ and producer Richie Hawtin, has relocated his own Sake Bar to Sacca, giving clients the opportunity to indulge in the alcoholic beverage of choice in the Land of the Rising Sun. Arigatoo, Richie San.

(Oh! And did we mention the complimentary champagne for table bookings of 10+?!)

(Call SACCA to book, details below)

All in all, music to everybody’s ears, we wager…we’d love to see you there!

FREDDIE’S PUTS THE FUN INTO FUNDRAISER!

ANNUAL EVENT FOR MERCURY PHOENIX TRUST CONFIRMED FOR SUNDAY 1 SEPT AT IBIZA ROCKS HOUSE

BOY GEORGE HOSTS EVENING DEDICATED TO LANCE LOUD IN AID OF HEP-C TRUST, THURS 22 AUG

PLUS 7WALLACE, PLAY IT BY EAR, EL FABULOSO, MUSTACHIO AND IBIZA ROCKS AFTER-PARTIES

(FIX Ibiza/12 Aug 2013):

With Ibiza Rockin’ at full tilt right now, and the island zooming towards the middle of August, it’s always good to know that there’s another world away hidden from the usual midsummer night’s madness, a rock n roll refuge right up there in the San Antonio Hills- yup, it’s Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes Hotel. The legendary agro-rock hotel of choice is a place with its own special magic which, over the next weeks, hosts a plethora of events that, frankly, deserve a big, shiny medal for their diversity, solidarity and sheer fabulousness. Amongst them, a Pikes personal favourite- FREDDIE ROCKS IBIZA- which is back on Sunday 1 September, raising more funds for The Mercury Phoenix Trust in aid of HIV & AIDS patients.

Back for its third year, this is an event with particularly special significance for all at Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes Hotel, dedicated to the hotel’s favourite former ambassador, Queen’s Freddie Mercury. The aim of the party is to not only celebrate what would have been the 67th birthday of the musical legend-in-leotards but also, to raise funds for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, the organization set up by the remaining members of Queen after the sad demise of their frontman. The Mercury Phoenix Trust has been raising millions to fight AIDS worldwide and here at Ibiza Rocks House, we like to add our tuppence worth in honour of the great man whose hedonistic history with Pikes has already gone down in the Ibiza annals.

Freddie Rocks Ibiza_Flyer2013

Due to public demand, this year the fundraiser begins at lunchtime by the Pikes Pool, with Antz & Co in charge of providing the daytime soundtrack for Freddie Rocks Ibiza, setting the mood for the frivolity as the first Freddie Lookie-Likees start pulling up to the sun loungers.Throughout the afternoon and heading into the night, also on the decks, a line up of local and international DJs including the schamazing 2MercuryBJs, Doorly, Wall of Sound’s Mark Jones, Stray Kitten, Andy Carroll and Colin Peters, most of whom have formed part of the Freddie’s Brigade since its beginnings, and all lining up to pay homage through tuneage.

As per every Freddie Rocks Ibiza event, big, hairy moustaches and/or other related Freddie get-up is pretty much essential- you know we love a theme. Fake Freddie facial hair will be available for purchase on entry, money also going to the charity. Last year’s event managed to raise some 4000€ for the cause; lets see if we can’t top that on Sunday 1 September and do dear Freddie proud on his heavenly cloud.

Important to note, guests also have the option to grab a table and fill up on the Ibiza Rocks House famous Sunday Roast pre- getting their groove on. Between that and the Poolside Menu, perfect fodder for pre-Freddie-Frivolity.

OTHER EVENTS COMING UP in AUGUST at IBIZA ROCKS HOUSE AT PIKES HOTEL:

IDRIS ELBA presents 7WALLACE

Friday 16 & 23 Aug

Idris Elba

Right up there with Ibiza’s Coolest Parties of 2013, 7Wallace has proved to be the party of choice for anyone with half a brain and, if they’re lucky, a direct line to the event’s exclusive guest list. Four down, two more to go, so far the star of stage, screen and now, the Ibiza Rocks House DJ booth, Idris Elba, has taken Fridays and the Ibiza Rocks after-parties to a whole new level. Most recognised for his starring roles in mega-series Luther and The Wire, British actor Elba is also currently premiering his new blockbuster, Pacific Rim, around the globe, squeezing in slots on the red carpets between his six summer appearances at Pikes. With special surprise guests including Pete Tong, Elba proves that, apart from his skills in front of the camera, he sure knows how to throw a party.

Idris Elba said: “The 7 Wallace parties are intimate and understated. There’s no huge club, just a really cool house party vibe. Ibiza Rocks House is perfect- unique, charming, full of character and seeped in music history. I’ve never experienced anywhere like it. It’s a hidden gem in the hills, a place where magical moments just happen naturally and interesting people are drawn in…”

It certainly doesn’t take much detective work to deduce that 7Wallace at Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes is the party of choice. Case Closed.

1001088_10152454162020616_1437678988_n

Another summer special returns to the hotel in the next days, Spain’s notoriously naughty EL FABULOSO shindig, celebrating it’s 3rdanniversary on the White Island and brought to us by a good time girl with old skool class- Silvia Superstar and her fabulous crew. Silvia is, in her own right, a bit of a household name over on the mainland, as singer and musician, model, promoter and all round rock chick who plays an important role in Madrid’s music scene and also, pops up occasionally on MTV’s Alaska & Mario, a reality programme based on the life of one of Spain’s most influential female musicians and front woman of Fangoria, Olvido Gara Jova aka Alaska.

DJs joining la Superstar in the DJ booth this Saturday 17 Aug are confirmed as Carlos Areces (reputed Spanish actor who has recently starred in the films of both Almodovar and Alex de la Iglesia), Vinila von Bismarck (Spanish Burlesque Queen, singer and DJ) and Ibiza’s own Colin Peters (rockmeister extraordinaire, Ibiza Rocks resident DJ and the island’s sharpest dresser). If this year is anything like previous editions of El Fabuloso, we are in for one blast of a day/night. Spain is different- and so are its party people…

Entrance to this event is by way of guest list only, by sending names and contact details to the El Fabuloso Facebook page:

The aim of the event is to celebrate Loud’s ife whilst simultaneously raising awareness of HIV and hepatitis C co-infection, of which Lance Loud eventually died. The screening of Lance Loud! A Death in An American Family (2003, 60 min) is well worth a watch and will be followed by a discussion with Hepatitis C Trust patron Boy George. IBIZA ROCKS ON IN AUGUST w/ ALUNAGEORGE, EXAMPLE, ELLIE GOULDING + DIZZEE RASCAL

IBIZA ROCKS def

Warming up over the next weeks, LONDON GRAMMAR, REDLIGHT, DOORLY, CLEAN BANDIT & TODDLA T SOUND

Meanwhile, W.A.R keeps raging on Fridays with both Rinse FM and the HMS Bestival takeover particular highlights

(FIX PR/Ibiza/Tues 6 Aug 2013) :

Ibiza. August. Hot. Just got hotter…Welcome to another bumper month at Ibiza Rocks with a live line up that really turns up the temperature in San Antonio every Wednesday. With headliners including tomorrow’s AlunaGeorge and, over the next weeks, Ellie Goulding, Example and the return of an artist that has become part of the Ibiza Rocks family- Dizzee Rascal, this is set to be one scorcher of a month at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel.

It’s a Rocks debut for AlunaGeorge who have exploded onto the scene and featured on one of the biggest tracks of the year ‘White Noise’ with Disclosure. Nominated for the BRITs Critics Choice Award and BBC’s Sound of 2013 and with debut album ‘Body Music’ out in July, this will be one seriously hot summer set.

As for Example, we can’t get enough of him at Ibiza Rocks this year, and he’s back on Aug 14 as part of his summer residency at the IR Hotel. Here’s what he has to say on the matter: ‘Whether it’s my live show or the We Are Rockstars crowds, the hotel is always packed and the atmosphere is incredible. Honestly, playing theIbiza Rocks Hotel – it feels like home for the summer. “

With support from acclaimed DJ/Producer Redlight bringing his live show to the island for the first time this is going to be one serious scorcher of a show.

Another debut in the form of Ellie Goulding on 21 Aug. Undoubtedly one of the UK’s most singular and compelling songwriters, in the two-and-a-half years since releasing massive debut album Lights, Ellie has secured huge global success including the USA where she’s sold over 3m albums.  Back with new album Halcyonand lead single, Anything Could Happen, Ellie shows a new immersion in electronica and dance beats, producing a fascinating collision between the clubbing scene and Ellie’s love of folk-pop soundscapes. Undoubtedly one of the world’s most successful female solo stars right now, we can’t wait for her to take centre stage for her debut at Ibiza Rocks.

It’s been almost 10 years since Dizzee released his debut single and Rocks is proud to have been on an incredible journey with the East London MC turned worldwide legend who has just been chosen by Muse to appear as a special guest on their UK Stadium tour.  Having first headlined Ibiza Rocks in 2008, Dizzee’s love affair with Ibiza began and headline gigs followed in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Dizzee will once again bring his genre-fusing musical genius to the famous open-air Rocks stage with a full new live show. Ibiza Rocks is delighted to bring our boy back to his home from home.

As for the warm up acts for August, talk about scorchio! London Grammar is an English art rock trio formed by Hannah Reid, Dot Major and Dan Rothman. Their debut EP Metal & Dust was released in Feb 2013 and their debut album If you Wait is due for release only a month after they take to the Ibiza Rocks stage, on 9Sept.

Clean BanditThe premise of this group is one that on paper sounds bizarre, an electronic/hip-hop collective built around a string quartet… It shouldn’t work but it really does- take the Ibiza Rocks word for it.

Although no stranger to Ibiza Rocks, this time Toddla T is also stepping up to our stage accompanied by Serocee, DRS and Shola AMA- the collective known as Toddla T Sound. Prepare for some kind of wonderful.

IBIZA ROCKS HOUSE/PIKES HOTEL presenta ‘JAZZ LEGENDS’ por BO WOODY WINTER

pikes

VERNISSAGE MARTES 30 JULIO, 20,00h

It ISN”T rock n roll- but we love it!

‘JAZZ LEGENDS’: AN ART EXHIBITION BY BO WOODY WINTER

pikes

VERNISSAGE TUES 30 JULY, 8PM

IBIZA ROCKS HOUSE @ PIKES HOTEL

EXCLUSIVE UNVEILING OF ARTIST’S 10M HOMAGE TO JAZZ GREATS

w/ MURIEL GROSSMAN QUARTET + DJ STRAY KITTEN

(FIX IBIZA/ 29 JULY 2013): Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes Hotel is undeniably the rock n roll hotel of choice on this, the Mediterranean island of music, a place where every musician worth his salt has laid his weary head and/or partied on with the best of them, ever since the beginning of its 33 year history. But Rock n Roll aside, our ears definitely pricked up and our jazzy hands began to tingle when we heard about the latest happening to take place up at Ibiza Rocks House thisTuesday 30 July.

See, sometimes, Ibiza Rocks rolls down a different road, dances to a different tune – and this Tuesday is a perfect example of what we mean, with the unveiling and vernissage of celebrated Dutch artist, Bo Woody Winter’s ‘JAZZ LEGENDS’ exhibition, a collection of 18 pieces depicting the History of Jazz and which will remain on show in Freddie’s Suite at the hotel until 8 August.

526446_424606600914961_66614430_n

The exhibition, being shown for the first time in Spain, is a culmination of several years of endless painting, bound together by the blood, sweat and tears of Woody Winter and apart from the 16 individual portraits includes his latest masterpiece, a 30ft long homage to jazz and Winter’s own jazz heroes.

Amongst the names- Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Nina Simone, Wes Montgomery, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, Dizzy Gillespie, Chet Baker, Eric Dolphy, Esperanza Spalding, James Spaulding – all legends in their field. Jazz represented by its finest figureheads and just some of the musicians portrayed in ‘Jazz Legends’.

This latest exhibition by Bo Woody Winter comes fresh on the heels of the artist’s recent show at the North Sea Jazz Festival, considered the biggest international jazz fest in the world. It was there in 2011 that Bo Woody Winter met his heroes -Marcus Miller and Toots Thielemans- both now have Bo’s portraits of them on their walls. North Sea Jazz Festival’s Art Show Director, Wim van Zon also plays an important role in Winter’s Ibiza exhibitions and will also present a visual introduction to Bo’s work this Tuesday. After its inauguration, the ‘Jazz Legends’ series will remain in Freddie’s Suite until 8 Aug.

998052_572250806150539_1992473975_n

Aside from the jazz junkie’s obvious first love, Winter also has a deeply rooted history in Holland’s dance music scene, and has recently completed a second collection of paintings under the moniker DJ LEGENDS, already confirmed to be revealed to the discerning public on October 11 at Agroturismo Atzaro, Sant Joan. As an introduction to this second event, this Tuesday’s vernissage will also include the presentation from the artist to international DJ Sarah Main.  But more on that later…

Back to Bo on the Rocks and the plan for this Tuesday. Apart from an introduction to the artist and the proud presentation of his mammoth 10 metre long painting, Ibiza Rocks House will be pulling out the stops and putting on the Ritz with cocktails from 8pm,  served to the tune of the finest jazz from the Muriel Grossman Quartet. Whilst all that is going on, Bo will also do a live paint in the hotel’s Plaza Mayor of one of jazz’s undeniably most talented females- Nina Simone.

For those who want even more, DJ Stray Kitten will be taking up the gauntlet/headphones in Freddie’s Suite playing a selection of swing, jazz, blues and soul.

Lastly, in a very bittersweet addition to the event, Bo Woody Winter will dedicate ‘Jazz Legends’ to his father, who very sadly lost his battle with cancer only last week. Bo will therefore be auctioning his famous ‘splatter suit’ and donating the proceeds to cancer research. Great suit, great gesture.

All in all, a very cool little happening for those in the know, for those who love jazz and those that love art and of course, not forgetting, the usual suspects- the Pikes party people- you know who you are…Jazzy Hands at the ready, Ibiza Rocks House turns speakeasy.

It ISN’T only Rock n Roll- but we love it!

URBAN IN IBIZA 5 PRESENTS ‘SONS OF WARHOL’: UNDER A STAR STENCILLED BANNER|

Image

CELEBRATING ITS 5TH YEAR AS IBIZA’S URBAN ART FORERUNNER AT ATZARó 1 AUG AND OCEAN BEACH CLUB 23 AUG
AMERICAN ARTISTS CONFIRMED AS SHEPARD FAIREY, JOHN TRACY, BAM MARGERA & CHAD MUSKA

(FIX/ IBIZA/17 JULY 2013) :  As Ibiza summer events go, it’s safe to say that ever since it first exploded onto the calendar in 2009, URBAN IN IBIZA is definitely up there on the Best of the Best List. This year, and what with the team behind the art-music-fashion extravaganza getting ready to celebrate their 5th birthday already (baby’s growin’ up…), this latest edition is set for starry, starry heights with not only a number of dates and venues confirmed but also, a wealth of both exclusive art & international artists all confirmed to take part in this Urban in Ibiza’s fifth celebration of their love of urban art, music and fashion.

The principal dates already set in stone for this edition are 1 Aug at Agroturismo Atzaró23 Aug at Ocean Beach Club and 31 July when Urban in Ibiza pops up for a live paint at Ibiza Rocks Hotel. Add to that the 30 July being set aside for the Mini Markers- a kids street art workshop at Atzaro plus the fact that the Urban in Ibiza exhibition itself runs at Atzaró Gallery until 8 Aug before being shipped off to San Antonio’s Ocean Beach Club, and it’s a veritable month long urbantastic explosion.

The mahoosive news for the urbanistas this time round is the fact that event owner and director Paul Dizzi Saunders has confirmed the acquisition of a number of exclusive works at the events by a number of high profile American artists including the internationally recognised Shepard Fairey, man behind Obey Giant.

Fairey’s name is a familiar one to any aficionado of contemporary urban/street art, his reputation having catapulted to a stellar level in 2008 when his ‘Hope’ portrait of Barack Obama became the iconic image of the presidential campaign and helped inspire an unprecedented political movement. The original image now hangs in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. At this year’s Urban in Ibiza, Shepard Fairey unveils some original 2013 work, and this, make no mistake about it, is ‘a HUGE deal’ by any standards.

Image

Representing Skate and Street, the work of Jackass’ Bam Margera and world renowned skater Chad Muska both form part of the SK8 Art St exhibition within an exhibition at Urban in Ibiza this year with fellow artist and curator John Tracy the obvious choice for a personal appearance at the event. ‘SK8 ART ST’ is a skateboarding / street art concept which takes a long look at skate culture and the transformation of skate related objects and paraphernalia into functional and fine artworks.

Aside from the U.S contingent, expect a long list of art and artists including several old faithfuls and a number of young newbies. To date, this year’s Urban in Ibiza will feature the works (and many of them exclusively) of Banksy, David Walker, Mau Mau, Fin Dac, Inkie, Snik, Schoony, Ben Allen, Dan Kitchener aka DANK, Jim Vision, Ben Slow, Henry Hate, Pure Evil, Rowan Newton, My Dog Sighs, Kristian Hornsleth, K Guy, Goldie, Nick Walker, Ryan Callanan aka RYCA, Milo, Copyright, Gemma Compton, Jim Starr, Elmo Hood, Lauren Baker, Chapter, Zeus, Nicolas Dixon, Sequin Kay, Adam Bricusse and if we know Dizzi Saunders, probably a few more squeezed in along the way…

Between them all, a celebration of street art, of skate, of urban culture and lifestyle. And that’s not to mention the fashion, the music and the kids’ workshop.

Image

As per every year, Urban In Ibiza’s organisers are planning to wow with a catwalk show par excellence, this year led by Belgian designer and winner of the ‘Premium Young Designer Award 2013’ at Berlin Fashion Week, urban fashion designer Tom Van der Borght. Showcasing his award-winning  AW 13/14 collection ‘Aponycalypse’, Tom’s wild creations are the missing pieces of the Urban In Ibiza puzzle for 2013, we kid you not. Get ready for a catwalk show that simply screams Urban.

Warming up the catwalk and the crowd, Urban in Ibiza are also delighted to bring White Ibiza on board. After the successful launch of a new online Ibiza fashion boutique earlier this year, the fashion and style experts from White Ibiza are teaming up with Urban in Ibiza to bring their online brands onto the catwalk!

Smelling salts at the ready, it’s White Ibiza’s selection of this summer’s hottest swimwear styles, from hot US label L*Space and Brazilian brand ViX Swimwear among others that will have the crowd’s attention. Think fabulous fringing, wild patterns, mismatched prints, tribal embellishments and edgy hardware – these bikinis are anything but tame, echoing Ibiza’s eclectic yet chic style stakes. Attention grabbing stiff, just the way the Urbanistas like it…

Musically, it’s never a dull affair at Urban in Ibiza and this 5th Anniversary promises to prove just that. Fans of past editions will know the name of Benji Boko rather well, and the English DJ/Producer is back again to get the party well and truly started with his kooky remixes and energetic hip hop mash up sessions. He’s joined by MC Carpetface and DJs Samir, Yuniq, GianLuca de Tiberiis and Tony Montana plus special performances TBC. Extra good news on the music front, with Atzaró’s extended licencing hours meaning that we can make sweet urban music until 4a.m for the first time in Urban’s history at the gorgeous rural hotel hideaway.

As per every edition, Urban in Ibiza loves getting the kids involved. Lined up for their junior art experience this time around, Urban in Ibiza presents Mini Markers, a Street Art workshop with one of Europe’s top Graffiti artists Tom ‘Inkie’ BingleThe workshop is devised for 6-14 year olds and takes place on 30July from 12- 2.30pm again at Atzaró. With a set price per child of 25€, leave your budding Sons of Warhol to get their creative flow on, whilst you parents relax and enjoy lunch at Sant Joan’s jewel in the crown, Agroturismo Atzaró. And with Junior’s masterpiece coming home with him/her, best make a space on the mantelpiece. Booking is essential and can be done by mailing: charlotte@londonwestbank.com

So. To sum up. Art- Fashion- Music. Put it all together and what have you got except one great big, brilliant celebration of Urban Lifestyle.

Urban in Ibiza 5: Sons of Warhol…We hope Andy himself would be proud…
