Smokin’ Jo takes over Fridays with this week’s guest DJs including Mark Ronson + Sandy Rivera (Kings of Tomorrow) + more TBC

Sunday Roast/Play It by Ear Closing Date announced

‘Vamp Rocks’ confirms its return for Halloween

(FIX/IBIZA/PR/13 Sept 2013)

Who would have thunk it?! Here we are in September and according to the recent weather, summer definitely seems to be coming to a close. But up atIbiza Rocks House at Pikes Hotel, and as the sign at the front entrance says, it ain’t over till the fat lady sings. And she ain’t singin’ just yet…

After a very successful run on Fridays, Idris Elba finally left our shores to shimmy his way up the red carpets of the international movie world, with the premier of his latest blockbuster, Pacific Rim. Accepting the challenge and the party gauntlet, Smokin’ Jo is the woman responsible for getting the weekend going through the month of September. Last week’s Guest DJs Skin (Skunk Anansie), David Morales, Bones, Andy Carroll and Colin Peters blew the imaginary roof off the House, and this weekan equally smashing line up including none other than Ibiza Rocks House’s old chum Mark Ronson plus Sandy Rivera (Kings of Tomorrow) joining Smokin’ Jo with yet another superstar yet to be announced.

Kicking off at midnight, just as We Are Rockstars comes to a close over at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel, Fridays have gone from strength to strength up at IRH over the summer and don’t look to have any notion of stopping just yet. Our kind of people, our kind of music, our kind of fun…

Moving on to the regular Sunday summer shenanigans and renowned party starter, DJ Antz Bryans, has wowed us all over the last weeks with a line up of guest DJs that have been nothing if not diverse- from much respected DJ Arthur Baker to  Eastenders’ star Patsy Palmer, Disco Don Nigel Atkin, Hugo Heathcote, Jon Sa Trinxa, Colin Peters, Dave Lubin and Justin Field amongst them. With five events to go, our main man is pulling out the sonic stops for this last month of events at the rock n roll hotel of choice. As for the simultaneous Sunday Roast– it’s the perfect choice for these September days; make sure you bring a big appetite. We recommend pre-booking your table (details below). As for the actual Closing Party onSunday October 13, we should probably mention that post-sunset, the evening will turn somewhat all Rocky Horror Picture Show with a screening of the legendary musical with the party continuing on into the wee small hours. Fishnets at the ready, time is fleeting and madness takes its toll…

Which brings us rather neatly to Halloween and, after last year’s successful scariness, we are very excited to announce the return of VAMP ROCKS on31 October. With tickets at 10€, price including a chalice of our finest mead plus a very scary surprise, this is guaranteed to be a night of shrieking good fun all round. No fancy dress, no entrance. DJs on the night include Stray Kitten, Bones and more TBC.

In other news, and following on from the recent Freddie Rocks Fundraiser on 1 Sept, it’s with an enormous amount of pride that we announce that the total raised so far for the Mercury Phoenix Trust at this year’s event is 4,500€ and counting! Massive thanks to all who got involved with the annual hirsute fundraiser- this is one doo that is becoming quite the institution at the house on the hill.

Flag Up the Dates!

FRIDAY 20 SEPT: Smokin’ Jo presents Mark Ronson, Sandy Rivera (Kings of Tomorrow) plus Andy Carroll, Doorly and Ste-V-Something

DJ Antz + Friends Play It By Ear /Sunday Roast.

Meanwhile, W.A.R keeps raging on Fridays with both Rinse FM and the HMS Bestival takeover particular highlights

(FIX PR/Ibiza/Tues 6 Aug 2013) :

Ibiza. August. Hot. Just got hotter…Welcome to another bumper month at Ibiza Rocks with a live line up that really turns up the temperature in San Antonio every Wednesday. With headliners including tomorrow’s AlunaGeorge and, over the next weeks, Ellie Goulding, Example and the return of an artist that has become part of the Ibiza Rocks family- Dizzee Rascal, this is set to be one scorcher of a month at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel.

It’s a Rocks debut for AlunaGeorge who have exploded onto the scene and featured on one of the biggest tracks of the year ‘White Noise’ with Disclosure. Nominated for the BRITs Critics Choice Award and BBC’s Sound of 2013 and with debut album ‘Body Music’ out in July, this will be one seriously hot summer set.

As for Example, we can’t get enough of him at Ibiza Rocks this year, and he’s back on Aug 14 as part of his summer residency at the IR Hotel. Here’s what he has to say on the matter: ‘Whether it’s my live show or the We Are Rockstars crowds, the hotel is always packed and the atmosphere is incredible. Honestly, playing theIbiza Rocks Hotel – it feels like home for the summer. “

With support from acclaimed DJ/Producer Redlight bringing his live show to the island for the first time this is going to be one serious scorcher of a show.

Another debut in the form of Ellie Goulding on 21 Aug. Undoubtedly one of the UK’s most singular and compelling songwriters, in the two-and-a-half years since releasing massive debut album Lights, Ellie has secured huge global success including the USA where she’s sold over 3m albums.  Back with new album Halcyonand lead single, Anything Could Happen, Ellie shows a new immersion in electronica and dance beats, producing a fascinating collision between the clubbing scene and Ellie’s love of folk-pop soundscapes. Undoubtedly one of the world’s most successful female solo stars right now, we can’t wait for her to take centre stage for her debut at Ibiza Rocks.

It’s been almost 10 years since Dizzee released his debut single and Rocks is proud to have been on an incredible journey with the East London MC turned worldwide legend who has just been chosen by Muse to appear as a special guest on their UK Stadium tour.  Having first headlined Ibiza Rocks in 2008, Dizzee’s love affair with Ibiza began and headline gigs followed in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Dizzee will once again bring his genre-fusing musical genius to the famous open-air Rocks stage with a full new live show. Ibiza Rocks is delighted to bring our boy back to his home from home.

As for the warm up acts for August, talk about scorchio! London Grammar is an English art rock trio formed by Hannah Reid, Dot Major and Dan Rothman. Their debut EP Metal & Dust was released in Feb 2013 and their debut album If you Wait is due for release only a month after they take to the Ibiza Rocks stage, on 9Sept.

Clean BanditThe premise of this group is one that on paper sounds bizarre, an electronic/hip-hop collective built around a string quartet… It shouldn’t work but it really does- take the Ibiza Rocks word for it.

Although no stranger to Ibiza Rocks, this time Toddla T is also stepping up to our stage accompanied by Serocee, DRS and Shola AMA- the collective known as Toddla T Sound. Prepare for some kind of wonderful.

Apart from Ibiza Rocks’ signature Wednesday night, Fridays at the Hotel have also taken on a life of their own, with a line up of the best in new talent taking to the stage week in, week out…

This is W.A.R!

Throughout the month of August, it’s a veritable starfest round at W.A.R with the likes of our Doorly, Rudimental, Mele and even Luther star Idris Elba amongst the DJs behind the decks. And that’s before we even mention that the HMS Bestival is due to anchor on our stage on 16 Aug, bringing with them a hearty crew ofJaguar Skills and Rob Da Bank.

Finally, don’t miss this Friday at We Are Rockstars, when Rinse FM are taking over with a live show from Katy B, P Money, Zinc and Idris Elba. HUGE!

The Dates:

Ibiza Rocks with AlunaGeorge / London Grammar, 7 August 2013
W.A.R! x Rinse FM with Katy B / P Money / Zinc, 9 August 2013
Ibiza Rocks with Example LIVE / Redlight, 14 August 2013
W.A.R! x HMS Bestival with Rob Da Bank / Jaguar Skills / Shy FX, 16 August 2013
Ibiza Rocks with Ellie Goulding / Clean Bandit, 21 August 2013
W.A.R! with Example & DJ Wire / Mele / Idris Elba / Doorly / Mediate, 23 August 2013
Ibiza Rocks with Dizzee Rascal / The Toddla T Sound, 28 August 2013
W.A.R! x Black Butter Records with Rudimental (DJ Set) / Gorgon City feat. Yasmin / Scrufizzer, 30 August 2013

(FIX/ IBIZA/17 JULY 2013) :  As Ibiza summer events go, it’s safe to say that ever since it first exploded onto the calendar in 2009, URBAN IN IBIZA is definitely up there on the Best of the Best List. This year, and what with the team behind the art-music-fashion extravaganza getting ready to celebrate their 5th birthday already (baby’s growin’ up…), this latest edition is set for starry, starry heights with not only a number of dates and venues confirmed but also, a wealth of both exclusive art & international artists all confirmed to take part in this Urban in Ibiza’s fifth celebration of their love of urban art, music and fashion.

The principal dates already set in stone for this edition are 1 Aug at Agroturismo Atzaró23 Aug at Ocean Beach Club and 31 July when Urban in Ibiza pops up for a live paint at Ibiza Rocks Hotel. Add to that the 30 July being set aside for the Mini Markers- a kids street art workshop at Atzaro plus the fact that the Urban in Ibiza exhibition itself runs at Atzaró Gallery until 8 Aug before being shipped off to San Antonio’s Ocean Beach Club, and it’s a veritable month long urbantastic explosion.

The mahoosive news for the urbanistas this time round is the fact that event owner and director Paul Dizzi Saunders has confirmed the acquisition of a number of exclusive works at the events by a number of high profile American artists including the internationally recognised Shepard Fairey, man behind Obey Giant.

Fairey’s name is a familiar one to any aficionado of contemporary urban/street art, his reputation having catapulted to a stellar level in 2008 when his ‘Hope’ portrait of Barack Obama became the iconic image of the presidential campaign and helped inspire an unprecedented political movement. The original image now hangs in the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. At this year’s Urban in Ibiza, Shepard Fairey unveils some original 2013 work, and this, make no mistake about it, is ‘a HUGE deal’ by any standards.

Representing Skate and Street, the work of Jackass’ Bam Margera and world renowned skater Chad Muska both form part of the SK8 Art St exhibition within an exhibition at Urban in Ibiza this year with fellow artist and curator John Tracy the obvious choice for a personal appearance at the event. ‘SK8 ART ST’ is a skateboarding / street art concept which takes a long look at skate culture and the transformation of skate related objects and paraphernalia into functional and fine artworks.

Aside from the U.S contingent, expect a long list of art and artists including several old faithfuls and a number of young newbies. To date, this year’s Urban in Ibiza will feature the works (and many of them exclusively) of Banksy, David Walker, Mau Mau, Fin Dac, Inkie, Snik, Schoony, Ben Allen, Dan Kitchener aka DANK, Jim Vision, Ben Slow, Henry Hate, Pure Evil, Rowan Newton, My Dog Sighs, Kristian Hornsleth, K Guy, Goldie, Nick Walker, Ryan Callanan aka RYCA, Milo, Copyright, Gemma Compton, Jim Starr, Elmo Hood, Lauren Baker, Chapter, Zeus, Nicolas Dixon, Sequin Kay, Adam Bricusse and if we know Dizzi Saunders, probably a few more squeezed in along the way…

Between them all, a celebration of street art, of skate, of urban culture and lifestyle. And that’s not to mention the fashion, the music and the kids’ workshop.

As per every year, Urban In Ibiza’s organisers are planning to wow with a catwalk show par excellence, this year led by Belgian designer and winner of the ‘Premium Young Designer Award 2013’ at Berlin Fashion Week, urban fashion designer Tom Van der Borght. Showcasing his award-winning  AW 13/14 collection ‘Aponycalypse’, Tom’s wild creations are the missing pieces of the Urban In Ibiza puzzle for 2013, we kid you not. Get ready for a catwalk show that simply screams Urban.

Warming up the catwalk and the crowd, Urban in Ibiza are also delighted to bring White Ibiza on board. After the successful launch of a new online Ibiza fashion boutique earlier this year, the fashion and style experts from White Ibiza are teaming up with Urban in Ibiza to bring their online brands onto the catwalk!

Smelling salts at the ready, it’s White Ibiza’s selection of this summer’s hottest swimwear styles, from hot US label L*Space and Brazilian brand ViX Swimwear among others that will have the crowd’s attention. Think fabulous fringing, wild patterns, mismatched prints, tribal embellishments and edgy hardware – these bikinis are anything but tame, echoing Ibiza’s eclectic yet chic style stakes. Attention grabbing stiff, just the way the Urbanistas like it…

Musically, it’s never a dull affair at Urban in Ibiza and this 5th Anniversary promises to prove just that. Fans of past editions will know the name of Benji Boko rather well, and the English DJ/Producer is back again to get the party well and truly started with his kooky remixes and energetic hip hop mash up sessions. He’s joined by MC Carpetface and DJs Samir, Yuniq, GianLuca de Tiberiis and Tony Montana plus special performances TBC. Extra good news on the music front, with Atzaró’s extended licencing hours meaning that we can make sweet urban music until 4a.m for the first time in Urban’s history at the gorgeous rural hotel hideaway.

As per every edition, Urban in Ibiza loves getting the kids involved. Lined up for their junior art experience this time around, Urban in Ibiza presents Mini Markers, a Street Art workshop with one of Europe’s top Graffiti artists Tom ‘Inkie’ BingleThe workshop is devised for 6-14 year olds and takes place on 30July from 12- 2.30pm again at Atzaró. With a set price per child of 25€, leave your budding Sons of Warhol to get their creative flow on, whilst you parents relax and enjoy lunch at Sant Joan’s jewel in the crown, Agroturismo Atzaró. And with Junior’s masterpiece coming home with him/her, best make a space on the mantelpiece. Booking is essential and can be done by mailing:

So. To sum up. Art- Fashion- Music. Put it all together and what have you got except one great big, brilliant celebration of Urban Lifestyle.

Urban in Ibiza 5: Sons of Warhol…We hope Andy himself would be proud…

30th JULY: Mini Markers @ Atzaró
31st JULY: Live Paint @ Ibiza Rocks Hotel
1st August: URBAN IN IBIZA 5 @ Atzaró
1st– 8th August: URBAN IN IBIZA Exhibition continues @Atzaró Gallery

5 months down the line, doing an internship with FIX IBIZA… a well-known PR and Events Management company.  I have decided to write a blog to tell you how it’s going!

So, how did I get to where I am now!?

Well, it all started last summer, when I was thinking about university choices and my current work experiences… having just moved to Ibiza and with a passion for Media, I decided I wanted to expand my knowledge and see what was out there for me in my new stomping ground of  Ibiza, and that’s when  I got the chance to help at FIX IBIZA… those 2 weeks work experience jam-packed with  events including Ibiza Rocks, Rock ‘N’ Mola and Els Dissabtes Al Mercat Vell showed me what its really like to be part of a PR and Events Management company; and changed my perception on what I wanted to do with my life…

So, I decided to take a gap year and here I am… I asked FIX IBIZA if they wouldn’t mind taking me on as an intern for a year after I had finished my A-levels, with absolute delight and without hesitation they accepted…

End of June …a step into the real world of work, but… a new, exciting, miraculous experience adventure began…

Jillian once posted to me a quote from ’10 things you should expect in your first PR Job’ … “ When someone says expect the unexpected, slap them in the face and say you didn’t expect that did you?”  Even though this made me laugh, it reflected that I must ‘expect the unexpected’  and face challenges, but that’s what I need …to face any fears and expand my skills.  As tennis player, Arthur Ashe once said; “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can” …

My first taster of the crazy summer ahead with FIX was the Grand Opening of Ocean Beach Club, whose motto proclaimed, ‘A New Era for San Antonio’ . Assisting at the door with the press was a great way for me to communicate and to build up my confidence… Apart from working , there was also time to be able to enjoy the event, so there I was sitting in VIP with free drinks and classic tunes blaring out from the DJ booth……what more could an 18 year old girl want!? Seriously though, being a part the organisation of such an event and then attending  … I knew I had taken the right choice and would have one hell of a great time ahead…

Secondly, the well-known enterprise Ibiza Rocks. As well as promoting each event, by doing social media updates on Twitter and Facebook, I attended each event FIX IBIZA went to, these were: Ed Sheeran , The Maccabees, Kaiser Chiefs, Ben Howard, Kasabian, Major Lazer, Happy Mondays, Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club  and Mark Ronson and Zane Lowe’ … what an experience that was, It was great watching live concerts and getting to know the local press. Chatting to them and finding out what they do was a real insight (Ade Harris, Claire Bradley  (Ibiza-Blog), Mc Crackin(Ibiza Spotlight) Johnny Lee (MixMag/Sundance),Mike Parry (Lucky life TV) and many others.

To get a different aspect of being at the event, working wise, FIX set me up at the closing event with a press pass meaning I could take pictures within press boundaries, which I thoroughly enjoyed! … Not only that, there was an after party at the lovely and unique hotel, ‘Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes’, which I had never really been to before, so it was a great, relaxed, fun experience ! One thing which I will not forget is having a good chit chat to Mark Ronson in Freddie’s Bar ( + picture taken!) …

Throughout the summer ( June- August) a new event was bought to the island from England ‘UK’s biggest indie night’ ‘PROPAGANDA’ which was held at Sankeys and then at Es Paradis… I loved it…it was perfect for my age group,   the music was absolutely great , with DJ’s such as Matt Horne and Nick Grimshaw  from Radio 1 … Meeting Matt Horne aka Gavin from ‘ Gavin and Stacey’ was fun!

Urban in Ibiza (Atzaro) … the coolest urban art I have seen, featuring pieces from Goldie (Goldie himself was even there!) … There was such a nice atmosphere … Live graffiti artists, fashion show, live music… chill out area … superb… being able to help organise the event was an eye-opener, seeing what really goes on with such a big event was really useful, with so many different things going on, it really was magical.

The last event, which I went to in the summer season, was again held at the unique hotel ‘Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes’ – Govert de Roos. This event was a talk, from de Roos himself, a legendary  Rock ‘N’ Roll photographer from Holland. The outcome was a lovely relaxed and interesting evening, with an exhibition of his work, in which you got a real insight of his life and how he got to where he is now… kind of what I’m doing now, but not as extreme !!

Apart from all these wonderful experiences, I have also been in charge of compiling all the Dossiers for each event, which is time consuming but interesting -getting familiar with all the clients and keeping up with media issues, creating a mighty fine database of all FIX IBIZA’S clients, helping out with some press releases, keeping up to date with each event and promoting well known DJs such as ANTZ, assisting at interviews with Goldie and  Govert de Roos, plus general office assistance…

Now that summer 2012 has ended and winter 2012 has come upon us, the last event which was held was the first ever Halloween at Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes Hotel- ‘VAMP‘… this was extremely fun to organise, making homemade decorations of ghosts and witches legs… sadly I was unable to attend… it looked incredible and I have read great reviews of what an amazing evening everyone had…VAMPIFIED indeed!

Writing this blog, I would like to thank Jillian and Elena considerably for letting me have this opportunity, already it has been seriously, once in a life time experience , couldn’t of imagined this time a year a go I would have been doing this! … Not only have I had all these great experiences but Jillian and Elena have made me feel very welcome and even though they are my super cool bosses, they are  friends too… there have been some funny times…

It is only November and I have many more adventures to come … I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for the upcoming winter and 2013  … I have learnt already heaps … Thanks a million guys… BRING IT ON!!!

Nunca he estado en Ibiza antes. Será mejor que vaya pensando qué me voy a poner porque imagino que no tiene mucho sentido aparecer en Ibiza con mi chaqueta de traje”.

Acompañarán a Plan B, como cada año y siempre fieles a los platos de Ibiza Rocks nuestros residentes Doorly y Nicola Bear, máximos responsables de la banda sonora de los festivales y sus after partys.

Manteneos alerta, porque pronto iremos confirmando más nombres.
