Now, you know how I’ve recently been in overdrive about my current aficion- that being the wonders of Rockabilly…well, my obsession has taken a turn for the even better.

Here’s the scoop…So, the other day we get a phonecall from the Town Hall of Ibiza with the rocktastic news that we had been granted our wish of an extra date at the upcoming open air events ‘El Dissabtes al Mercat Vell’ , which we organise on behalf of the same Town Hall(see blog ‘On the Market’).  Rip it Up! Party On! Saturday 14th May is the lucky date we’ve been given, and it would seem to us to make absolute glaringly obvious sense to set the rockabilly wheel in motion, yes, sir.

So, we’ve gone out and booked Mallorca’s ‘Black Cats’, who’ll perform in the Old Market in La Marina on Saturday midday, 14th May, as part of the Els Disabtes al Mercat Vell events. The last one of the year, in fact- any excuse for a jive…

Here’s a quick biog of the band!

Trying not to dance when Black Cats start playing- an all but impossible task. With a sound ranging from Hillbilly-Bop to classic Rock and Roll and influences that include the legends of the day –Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Bill Haley, as well as Neo-rockabilly from the 80’s (Stray Cats, Restless), Mallorcan band Black Cats have performed in the United States and throughout the peninsula playing great songs to great crowds. Defined as ‘Rockabilly for all audiences’, some of Spain’s most revered music critics have devoted the following beautiful words to the Band:

Santiago Alcanda (Como Lo Oyes – Radio 3): “Very good indeed, these human beings ‘,’ they have a bestial sound,” “a great discovery.”

Mark Sendarrubias in Satellites 3 (Radio 3): “They combine great songs with a very good sound,” a group to be taken seriously. “

Charlie Faber (satellites 3 – Radio 3): “Their debut could very well project Black Cats into the premier league of music!”

But ‘c’mere, there’s more’, as 70s leading Irish ‘comedian’ Frank Carson used to say. We got to thinking that it might be fun to have the boys entertain the creatures of the Ibiza night whilst they’re on the island and all… So, we’ve put together a cunning plan, called ROCK N MOLA-a night devoted to good old rock n roll.

The main concept of ROCK N MOLA is to turn La Marina into a rockabilly road of sorts, a feat which will involve not only Black Cats doing a second performance in Lolas nightclub, but also the takeover of AK Pepua by the ladies, with DJS including IBIZA ROCKS resident and recognisable Ibiza Global Radio Rockerona, TART WITH A HEART, bringing her rock-club-night aptly entitled ‘GOOD VIBRATIONS’ to the island for the first time. The Old Tart will be going back to back with-how did you guess- the island’s own GIRLZ SKOOL , the residents of which, BEE FLY AND TOGA, are just aching to get jumping and jiving.

A bit further down the street and Ibiza’s oldest rock bar, DE MIEDO will be packing them with A GREAT LIVE ROCK N ROLL BAND on point of confirmation! Eek.

That plus DJS, beers, dancing, and a big bunch of cool dudes and dudettes- fun guaranteed! So, basically, that is where we are at with this plan. So far, so good, kiddos. We want YOU to get involved.

Keep you posted!

Ah! But before I go, here’s my ‘Loro’ of the week:

with Eivissa Jazz Big Band at 12 midday and Clownidoscopio Kids Workshop from 11am. Lovely!
